“Dear White People follows the lives of four black students at an Ivy League college. Students of color navigate the daily slights and slippery politics of life at an Ivy League college that’s not nearly as “post-racial” as it thinks.” Now on Netflicks. Issues related race, ethnicity and social class are simmering beneath the surface, seemingly ready to boil over. It’s important to see how a new generation of people of color strategize on how to handle the old legacy of prejudice and racism in a new environment. Below are a few reviews from around the web. “Dear White People,” based on Justin Simien’s 2014 satirical sprint through the identity obstacle course of higher education, survives the transition from film intact and in some ways better. The Netflix comedy, whose 10-episode first season arrives on Friday, keeps the movie’s essence but recognizes that TV is not just the movies with smaller screens and longer run times.
